Today saw the second day of the sale by Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Chatto, daughter of the late unlamented Princess Margaret, of all their mother's jewelry and other personal items. Not something I'd usually take an interest in, only it kind of shows the mentality of people such as His Lordship/ Her Ladyship. The reason for the sale is that these two parasites have inheritance tax of £3 million to pay, on an estate of £7.6 million. Now let's consider that for a moment. These two have, minus the inheritance tax, a £4.6 million estate. In addition, each of these are wealthy in their own right. Viscount Linley is both a furniture designer and owner of a chain of restaurants. Lady Chatto is, under the name Sarah Armstrong-Jones, a successful professional painter. Now, up and down the country, there are people struggling to make ends meet on benefit, including the unemployed, many disabled people, single parents and those working in low paid jobs including agency work. And yet Chatto and Linley feel that living off £4.6 million instead of £7.6 m. so unbearable that they have to sell off their mother's prized possessions?

And the sale is now completed, and the proceeds raised have more than equalled that £3 million - more than twice over in fact. Of course, very few people with, shall we say, an 'ordinary' income, could possibly afford any of the items. Not when a collection of menu cards was going for something like £13,000 at one point! On BBC Breakfast News this morning, we saw a typical punter - a really smug looking and quite obviously horribly wealthy Maltese lawyer, wittering on about his purchases - he was 'at a loose end' apparently and decided to throw away a couple of hundred grand on some of Maggie May's prized tat. The only bright spot I can find on all this is that the two instigators of this tasteless frenzy are due for another huge tax bill as a result of their auction's 'success'. Tee hee...

There was this fucking hedgehog-shaped broach thing amongst them; and plates with Disney cartoons stuck on them; and *plastic* umbrellas. The bloody woman had no taste!

On an unrelated subject,
have you read any of my other posts? I've had 0 comments for almost all of them and I'm wondering what people are thinking about them. -------- COMMENT-AUTHOR:Blogger stroppybird COMMENT-DATE:2:40 PM COMMENT-BODY:Red

It takes time to get people to comment. Stroppyblog has only been going over a month or so and at first no one commented. I also find it hard to work out why some posts attract comments and others don't.For example the post I did, as a joke, about who we would shoot come the revolution got a lots of comments !!
Sometimes with a post on other blogs I may like what is said but have nothing to add.
I find it also helps to go on other sites and comment. Your homepage is usually shown and people pop over to have a look. I know that is what i do . I see a comment and check out the persons homepage, as i did with you.

blogging is a strange old world !

Good luck. --------
